Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) has partnered with Advanced Electronics Company (AEC) to boost the development of Saudi Arabia’s digital ecosystem.

The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote the localisation of digital businesses in the Kingdom.

The collaboration is expected to support efforts in enabling the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, computing and communication, robotics, drones, and semiconductors that will add to the expansion of the country’s digital ecosystem.

AEC president and CEO Ziad Al-Musallam said: “The cooperation with Aramco is expected to contribute to the efficiency and value of the supply chains in the industrial digital businesses, especially at the engineering, manufacturing, and services level, across many systems and products used in the ICT, security, and energy sectors.”

Aramco has added the Industrial Digital Business (IDB) to its industrial investment programme, Aramco Namaat, with an aim to support the establishment of various digital hubs in Saudi Arabia.

According to Aramco, the programme is designed to maximise local content, contribute to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth, create new jobs, and speed up digital talent development.

In addition, the programme is initiated to enhance Aramco’s reliability and operational efficiency.

Aramco technical services SVP Ahmad Al Sa’adi said: “This partnership aims to help us to develop technologies and local talent as we work with leading technology providers to add value to the company and wider economy.”

In September last year, Aramco signed 22 new MoUs and one joint venture agreement for a major expansion of its Aramco Namaat.

The MoUs were aimed at capacity building in four key sectors that include sustainability, technology, industrial and energy services, and advanced materials.

Under a MoU signed with Honeywell, Aramco planned to set up a joint venture to develop advanced digital solutions for industrial facilities.
