Alibaba Cloud, a subsidiary of Alibaba Group, has introduced its latest artificial intelligence (AI) model called Tongyi Qianwen to facilitate the intelligence transformation of enterprises.

The large language model will be incorporated across the various businesses of Alibaba Group to enhance user experience in the near future.

Alibaba Cloud stated that its clients and developers will have access to the model to develop customised AI features in a cost-efficient manner.

Tongyi Qianwen, which supports both Chinese and English, will first be made available on Tmall Genie, a provider of Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled smart home appliances, and DingTalk, a digital workplace and application development platform built by Alibaba.

Based on Tongyi, Alibaba’s patented pre-trained model framework that integrates various AI models, the new model is available for general enterprise customers in China for beta testing.

The company has also introduced new elastic compute service (ECS) instances, object storage service reserved capacity (OSS-RC) and OSS anywhere reserved capacity (OSS-ARC) to offer lower cost options for key cloud products, including ECS and OSS.

According to Alibaba Cloud, this action will help companies to have computing more accessible and affordable to explore growing opportunities in the new AI era in China.

Alibaba Group chairman and CEO and Alibaba cloud intelligence CEO Daniel Zhang said: “We are at a technological watershed moment driven by generative AI and cloud computing, and businesses across all sectors have started to embrace intelligence transformation to stay ahead of the game.

“As a leading global cloud computing service provider, Alibaba Cloud is committed to making computing and AI services more accessible and inclusive for enterprises and developers, enabling them to uncover more insights, explore new business models for growth, and create more cutting-edge products and services for society.”

Its services include large-scale computing, security, database, elastic computing, storage, network virtualisation services, management and application services, big data analytics, a machine learning platform, and IoT services.
