Alibaba Cloud and VMware have launched the next-generation Alibaba Cloud VMware Service, their co-developed public cloud service, to enable enterprises in China to expedite cloud transformation.
Alibaba Cloud VMware Service is said to help enterprises shift and modernise applications quickly and move workloads seamlessly between on-premises VMware environments and Alibaba Cloud at scale.
By integrating the on-premises tools, skillsets, and processes of VMware, it delivers a dedicated infrastructure cloud service based on vSphere in Alibaba public cloud.
The public cloud service enables organisations to access Alibaba Cloud’s scale and agility, while utilising familiar enterprise infrastructure and management capabilities of VMware.
Alibaba Cloud, which is Alibaba Group’s data intelligence backbone, deploys, operates, handles the life-cycle, and supports the VMware Software Defined Data Center (SDDC).
Alibaba Cloud VMware Service is also said to help enterprises in bringing down operational complexity and mitigating risks in operations, while customers can concentrate on providing value-added services.
Alibaba Group vice president Lijuan Chen said: “Alibaba Cloud VMware Service enables enterprises to seamlessly migrate workload to cloud and reduce the costs of both operations and migration.
“It also helps enterprises leverage leading cloud technologies to further unlock the benefits of digital transformation.”
According to the two firms, their public cloud service comes with the power of the entire VMware Cloud stack, which is natively running on the advanced infrastructure of Alibaba Cloud. This helps in maximising performance, security, availability, and increase workload density.
VMware cloud infrastructure business group senior vice president and general manager Mark Lohmeyer said: “In today’s app-driven economy, more and more Chinese enterprises are adopting a hybrid cloud model to accelerate their digital transformation.
“Alibaba Cloud VMware Service helps customers modernise applications, infrastructure and operations faster with demonstrable economic benefits and less risk.”
Alibaba Cloud and VMware entered into a partnership in 2018 to offer a hybrid cloud service to bring VMware Cloud technologies like VMware vSphere, NSX, and vSAN to Alibaba public cloud.
