Accenture has signed a deal to acquire Canada-based Eclipse Automation, which offers customised engineered automation and robotics solutions.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Established in 2001, Eclipse Automation has offices across Canada, the US, Germany, Hungary, Malaysia, and Switzerland.

The Canadian firm develops automated manufacturing systems for producing sophisticated products for industrial equipment, life sciences, energy, automotive, and consumer goods companies.

The technologists and engineers of Eclipse Automation design, build, integrate, and service advanced automation solutions for manufacturing components and devices like batteries for electric vehicle and wearable blood-glucose monitors.

Apart from automation control systems, the company’s products include production machines and robots. The company has in-house manufacturing of critical customised tooling.

Accenture said that the acquisition will enable it to provide automated production lines that make use of the cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), and data. These will make factories and plants smarter, thereby increasing their productivity, sustainability, and safety, said the tech major.

Eclipse Automation CEO Steve Mai said: “For two decades, we have been leaders in delivering advanced automation solutions and high-tech manufacturing know-how to clients across multiple industries.

“By joining Accenture, we can also bring the advantages of data, AI and the cloud to our clients’ facilities at a scale that no other company can offer them.”

Eclipse Automation has a workforce of around 800 people, who after the closing of the deal, will join Industry X, which is the digital engineering and manufacturing service of Accenture.

Accenture Industry X North America lead Aaron Saint said: “Technology, data and AI are fundamentally transforming every part of a company. This includes engineering and manufacturing, our clients’ next digital frontier.

“With Eclipse Automation, we will combine advanced automation capabilities with our deep digital expertise. This will position Accenture better than ever to help our clients reimagine their products and how they make them.”

The closing of the deal is conditional on applicable regulatory approvals and other customary conditions.
