Picnic, a US-based food automation technology company, has announced the commercial availability of its Picnic Pizza System, which automates pizza making.

The announcement was made at the International Pizza Expo and Conference with the company taking in pre-orders from US customers.

According to Picnic, the Picnic Pizza System is a modular and configurable pizza assembly system that helps in saving time, labour, and money by implementing kitchen automation technology. The automated pizza-making system is said to use existing menus of restaurants and helps operators in preparing up to 100 pizzas per hour.

At the expo, Picnic said that it has wrapped up pilots and deployments with customers in the hospitality, theme park, entertainment, and restaurant industries. Besides, the company launched its robotics-as-a-service (RaaS) pricing structure.

Picnic said that through its robotics-as-a-service subscription model, the automated pizza-making system does not need any upfront costs. The subscription covers free on-site maintenance checks, and the system is monitored round-the-clock for maximum uptime, said the food technology firm.

Picnic CEO Clayton Wood said: “The team has been working tirelessly with customers and strategic partners over the past year to fine-tune the Picnic Pizza System. We’re very proud of the solution that we have created.

“The validation we’ve received from industry partners and customers reaffirms the need for kitchen automation solutions like ours, and we are looking forward to an excellent year ahead.”

The monthly subscription pricing of the Picnic Pizza System is in the range of $3,500-$5,000, based on the configuration and production volumes.

Picnic said that it will manufacture and install existing customer orders through this year and will begin to ship new system orders in 2022.

Recently, the food automation technology company raised over $20.5m in a Series A funding round for its automated pizza-making system. The funding round was led by Thursday Ventures and involved Creative Ventures, Flying Fish Partners, and Vulcan Capital among others.

The proceeds from the funding will be used by the company for boosting its growth and commercial operations.
