Accenture has developed a cloud-based core IT platform for Astellas Pharma, that forms the base for an advanced, data-driven management model for the latter’s global operations.

The Japanese pharmaceutical firm has already introduced the new platform in Japan, the Americas, and Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), with plans for more deployments.

The cloud-based core IT platform is said to help Astellas quickly incorporate new and emerging technologies, accommodate mergers and acquisitions, and rapidly deploy plans for business continuity.

Accenture has developed the new cloud-based platform based on the SAP S/4HANA enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. The platform runs on Microsoft Azure.

According to Accenture, the platform will consolidate data from the supply chain, human resources, and purchasing and accounting operations of Astellas into a unified view.

The data was previously scattered across countries, locations, and departments.

Astellas’ new core IT platform also includes SAP SuccessFactors human capital management (HCM) solutions to boost employee productivity and agility to drive innovation.

Astellas senior vice president and information systems head Shinya Suda said: “We can centralise data and make the best use of this technology to create a business platform that supports visualisation and bold data-driven decision-making.

“In collaboration with Accenture and other internal and external partners, Astellas will continue to focus on creating innovations that contribute to the health of people around the world.”

Apart from the new platform, Accenture is providing business process services to Astellas that are aimed at strengthening the agility of the latter’s global operations.

Accenture said that the combination of the data collected by Astellas’ new IT platform and operations services with digital technologies like artificial intelligence, analytics, and robotic process automation will simplify the latter’s enterprise processes.

Accenture Technology Japan senior managing director and intelligent platform services lead Mitsuru Nagata said: “I am pleased to be able to support this significant project that will accelerate the ‘One Astellas’ vision.

“By bringing together the talent of both companies from around the world and thanks to the strong commitment of Astellas’ top management to complete the project we were able to set up this core platform.”
