You would think that wealth comes packaged with such a huge achievement. Yet, the NBC net worth will probably shock you.
What is the NBC net worth?
There is no exact value assigned to NBC, given that the broadcasting giant is part of NBCUniversal, which holds the NBC Broadcasting network, famed film studio Universal Pictures and the Universal Studios theme parks in America and Asia.
NBCUniversal is a privately held company. It’s parent company, Comcast Corporation, has a market cap of $196.9 billion. Yet, according to some, NBC plays no part in keeping that value up.
According to leading financial analyst Matthew Harrigan, NBC Broadcasting has a total worth of negative $600 million.
The television network spends huge amounts of money on broadcasting rights, in order to provide their viewers with the very best shows and events. NBC spent $10.27 billion in 2015. Likewise, they also paid out $4 billion for the rights to broadcast the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games back in 2011.
However, while programming costs continue to climb, the company has struggled to cover its expenses with falling advertising costs.
The NBC network isn’t as financially successful as Comcast might have hoped. However, their purchase of NBCUniversal isn’t all doom and gloom. The media conglomerate is reportedly worth $30 billion, but which divisions make up that astronomical value?
DreamWorks Animation
In 2016, NBCUniversal successfully purchased famed animation studio DreamWorks, best known for hit films such as Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda. The deal valued the studio at $3.8 billion.
Universal Studios
Movies are proving to be big business for Comcast. Producing leading movie franchises, such as Fifty Shades of Grey, Fast & Furious and Despicable Me, and coupled with their hugely popular theme parks, Universal Studios is valued at over $5.4 billion.
USA Network
While NBC struggles, cable television channel USA Network thrives. Best known for shows such as Modern Family, Law & Order and WWE, USA Network is believed to be worth $11.7 billion.
