Your company logo is your calling card to the world, and a huge influence on success. What does yours do for your business?

There’s something magical about a good logo.

It tells a story in the blink of an eye. Additionally, it shows what a firm does, and if it has meaning in today’s culture.

Thus, a logo is more than just a symbol.

It’s an invitation to find out more, and should be memorable.

If it’s none of the above, then people won’t think about it later on.

If that happens, a business is doomed.

A bad company logo is a no-no

SmartSign, a sign creation specialist, carried out a recent study on what makes a compelling logo.

To begin with, it looked at Inc.’s list of America’s Fastest Growing Companies. Then, it chose 2,000 logos to see how they related to high performing businesses.

Inc.’s rank covered companies with a three year growth of 40% or more, and who made at least $100,000 in revenue three years prior.

SmartSign thus tried to find what the logos from successful firms had in common.

It focused on shape, colour, if the logo was a word or icon, and if it was detailed or simple.

Interestingly, the results showed strong links between the logos they chose.

Most strikingly, SmarSign saw that most were simple in scope. While appearance is the main reason for this, the logic behind this kind of design means that minimal logos will keep their detail when scaled down.

Additionally, the sign specialists saw that successful companies featured navy blue as its main colour. Grey was also a popular choice.
