With a century of experience under the hood, the BMW net worth continues to grow. However, it hasn’t always been easy for the German car manufacturers.

Bavarian Motor Works, better known as BMW, is a luxury vehicle manufacturer.

The German company is one of the most popular car brands in the world, coming second behind Mercedez Benz for worldwide luxury car sales. Likewise, BMW is also the most searched for vehicle manufacturer in the United Kingdom.

That wasn’t always the case. In fact, BMW wasn’t a car company at all until 1929.

Karl Rapp and Gustav Otto founded BMW in 1916. The company was initially an aircraft manufacturer. However, aircraft engine production was banned in Germany following World War I, which forced BMW to find a new product to manufacture.

Seeking new revenue streams, BMW eventually got into the automobile market. Yet, they have also tried their hand at manufacturing furniture, bicycles, pots and pans over the years.

However, since moving into the automotive industry, the BMW net worth has boomed.

3 iconic cars that boosted the BMW net worth

BMW 3/15: 1929

BMW acquired vehicle manufacturer Automobilwerk Eisenach in 1928. Along with the factory, they also inherited the right to manufacture and sell their Dixi 3/15 vehicle. This would be the company’s first ever car.

Renamed and upgraded, the BMW 3/15 was ready for release in 1929. The popular vehicle was powered by a 743cc 4 cylinder engine, which allowed it to reach speeds of 50 mph.

BMW Isetta: 1955

The Isetta was BMW’s most popular vehicle throughout the 1950s. It is often credited with saving the company from extinction following World War II.

The 1955 Isetta is best remembered for its tiny size. In fact, it is so small that it was once legal to drive with a motorcycle license.

BMW M1: 1978

The M1 was to be a collaborative effort between BMW and Lamborghini. However, the German manufacturers decided to go it alone due to their partner’s money problems.

Released in 1978, the M1 was BMW’s first ever supercar, capable of reaching speeds of 162 mph. The M1 was in production for just three years. Nevertheless, it is fondly remembered for its stylish appearance.
