Microsoft’s second-quarter 2020 revenue stood at $43.1bn, a 17% increase compared to $36.9bn for the corresponding period of 2019

Microsoft has reported a net income of $15.5bn, or $2.03 per diluted share, for the second quarter ended 31 December 2020, a 33% increase compared to $11.6bn, or $1.51 per diluted share, for the same quarter of 2019.

The tech company reported revenue of $43.1bn for the second quarter of 2020, an increase of 17% compared to $36.9bn for the corresponding period of 2019.

Microsoft has reported an operating income of $17.9bn for the second quarter of 2020, a 29% increase compared to $13.9bn for the previous year’s quarter.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said: “What we have witnessed over the past year is the dawn of a second wave of digital transformation sweeping every company and every industry.

“Building their own digital capability is the new currency driving every organisation’s resilience and growth. Microsoft is powering this shift with the world’s largest and most comprehensive cloud platform.”

Business segment results

The company’s Productivity and Business Processes segment reported revenue of $13.4bn for the second quarter of 2020, a 13% increase compared to the same period in 2019.

Intelligent Cloud segment’s revenue increased by 23% and More Personal Computing segment’s revenue increased by 14% for the second quarter of 2020.

Microsoft executive vice president and chief financial officer Amy Hood said: “Accelerating demand for our differentiated offerings drove commercial cloud revenue to $16.7 billion, up 34% year over year. We continue to benefit from our investments in strategic, high-growth areas.”

Microsoft has reported a net income of $29.3bn, or $3.85 per diluted share, for the six months ended 31 December 2020, a 31% increase compared to $22.3bn, or $2.90 per diluted share, for the corresponding period of 2019.

For the six months ended 31 December 2020, the tech company reported revenue of $69.9bn, an increase of 15% compared to $80.2bn for the corresponding period of the previous year.
