India-based L&T Technology Services in collaboration with Intel has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) based outdoor smart parking solution.

Powered by the Intel Distribution of the OpenVINO toolkit, the new solution will operate on the AI inference model on Intel Xeon scalable processors and Intel Movidius VPUs.

The smart parking solution includes four key components – an operator portal that hosts user information; a mobile app for end-user interface; a digital signage module for safe access; and a digital camera.

All these components are connected by the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform.

L&T Technology Services CEO and managing director Amit Chadha said: “Technology and engineering services have the potential to not only enable business benefits but also empower organisations to proactively enhance environmental, social and governance-related pursuits.

“With the density of urban environments resulting in wastage of fuel that runs into the thousands of litres every day, such an intelligent solution can help overcome a myriad of issues faced by the industry.

“Using technologies from a global technology leader like Intel, we look forward to further opportunities to introduce disruptive innovations for the larger benefit of humankind.”

Without the requirement of sensors, the solution can cover thousands of parking spots and help users find vacant parking spaces that are available in outdoor parking lots.

The solution will offer users a personalised experience via the app, enabling them to reverse a parking spot and track occupancy in real-time.

It will also provide parking insights through AI-enabled surveillance for operators via augmented video analytics.

The parking solution can be deployed in parking areas in airports, shopping malls, stadiums and office campuses.

Intel next generation and standards senior director Jonathan Wood said: “This latest edge AI-based parking innovation is a natural extension of LTTS’s product portfolio leveraging Intel technologies.

“Their use of Intel solutions, in the area of smart venues and buildings, further serves as a commitment to consistently introduce disruptive technologies to help enterprise realise efficiencies from digital transformation.”
