IT infrastructure services provider Kyndryl is joining forces with Nokia to develop and deliver long-term evolution (LTE) and 5G private wireless connectivity services and Industry 4.0 solutions to customers around the world.

The new announcement is a three-year extension and expansion of the parties’ global network and edge computing alliance that began in February 2022.

So far, the Kyndryl and Nokia partnership has grown across 24 countries with over 100 active engagements with global businesses, from advisory or testing, to piloting, to full implementation.

Kyndryl network and edge computing global practice leader Paul Savill said: “Our partnership with Nokia has been focused on co-innovating and co-creating for customers to digitally transform their workspaces and operations.

“The success we have seen in deploying private wireless for customers like Dow over the past 12-months, along with the global expansion of our collaboration, is a testament to our belief that we can jointly help companies drive Industry 4.0 transformation across all industries, with speed and scale.”

According to Kyndryl, the expanded effort will be boosted with the company’s securing of the Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) Advanced accreditation status. This is said to help ensure that enterprise clients benefit from a broadened lineup of expert resources and skilled practitioners who are trained extensively and have a deep understanding of Nokia solutions and products.

Additionally, the accreditation status means customers will be able to access Kyndryl’s expedited network deployment capabilities and support of the cellular radio expertise of Nokia in certain markets.

Kyndryl and Nokia along with cybersecurity firm Palo Alto Networks will open a joint lab in Raleigh, North Carolina aimed at meeting the increasing convergence and demands of OT and IT for enterprises.

The lab will provide industrial networks with wireless connectivity that is reliable and auditable, while having advanced security capabilities.

Through the partnership, a multi-factor zero trust model for industrial networking is enabled at the IT as well as the OT sides of the network by leveraging the best tools and resources from each of the firms, said Kyndryl.

Nokia global enterprise business head Chris Johnson said: “Kyndryl and Nokia have a shared vision for digital transformation, and as leaders in our respective industries we are driven to grow this market together. We are excited to build upon our existing success and strengthen our alliance targeting more enterprise customers across multiple industries.

“The two companies are currently exploring and developing new, integrated solutions and services for Edge, Cloud, IP networking, Optics, Fixed Access, 4G and 5G Core and Network Operations software technologies, which can address the growing demand for mission-critical, industrial-grade wireless networking.”

Recently, Kyndryl was selected by Stellantis to deliver technology services and manage core IT infrastructure services of the Dutch automotive company across its operations.
