Burger chain Five Guys will use real-time data analysis to cut down on plastic straws, paper bags and cups, while also improving how it staffs restaurants
Global fast food chain Five Guys is working with data platform Looker to reduce its carbon footprint
With access to real-time information provided by its partner, the burger behemoth is able to cut down on waste, including plastic straws, paper bags and cups.
By using more data across its sales, operations and various other business teams has also helped to improve multiple efficiencies as well as the overall customer experience.
Integration and warehouse manager at Five Guys JV Fareldia Jefferies, said: “We needed a platform that could transform our culture around data – taking it from a ‘nice to have’ to an essential component of our business model.
“Looker has enabled us to do just that, giving everyone access to real-time, live data and insights.
“Based on that knowledge, we’ve improved warehouse efficiency, reduced waste and cut queue-times – all underpinning an improved customer experience.”
Five Guys improving sustainability in its business
Using its new data, Five Guys will be able to implement improved long-term sustainability planning.
For example, should a new law be passed that requires businesses to reduce their amount of plastic, the Looker platform can immediately assess the cost of new goods, as well as what plastic stock is already owned and how long it will last.
This allows the fast food giant to plan accordingly and make sure it stays within legislated sustainability requirements.
Five Guys will also be able to manage staffing more accurately by highlighting regional trends, such as the requirement for more tills to manage daily demand in countries such as Spain.
John O’Keeffe, VP of EMEA for Looker, said: “Five Guys was a business seeking to improve the way it leverages data in order to reduce its impact on the environment, build stronger customer relationships and grow its business.
“Together, by harnessing Looker’s platform, we’ve put data at the heart of this process, enabling informed decisions based on real-life insights – not only improving the quality of decision-making but easing and speeding the process of gleaning such insights along the way.”
