Oracle has announced plans to launch a second cloud region in Singapore in a move to address the rapidly growing demand for cloud services in South East Asia.

The new cloud region in the country is among Oracle’s 10 planned public regions that will add to the 41 regions that the company currently operates.

With the new cloud region, Oracle’s public and private sector customers and partners are expected to have a new option to locate their applications, infrastructure, and data for maximum performance and latency.

Customers will have access to a range of cloud services to modernise their applications as well as innovate with data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI), said Oracle.

Besides, the new cloud region will allow the migration of mission-critical workloads from their data centres to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

Oracle Japan and Asia Pacific president Garrett Ilg said: “Our upcoming second cloud region in Singapore will help meet the tremendous upsurge in demand for cloud services in South East Asia.

“With the new region, Oracle offers customers true business continuity and disaster protection while meeting in-country data residency requirements.

“As a result, we’re extending our commitment to helping organisations in South East Asia embrace technologies like AI, machine learning, and IoT to address their most complex challenges and achieve more with less.”

According to Oracle, customers will be allowed to gain enhanced business continuity by utilising both Oracle Cloud Singapore regions together while retaining data residency within the country.

The second Singapore cloud region is expected to provide more than 100 OCI services and applications. These include Oracle Container Engine for Kubernetes, Oracle Autonomous Database, MySQL HeatWave Database Service, and Oracle Cloud VMware Solution.

In December 2022, Oracle opened its fourth US cloud region in Chicago, Illinois. Dubbed Oracle Cloud Chicago Region, it is Oracle’s 41st global cloud region.
