Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has been selected by German soccer club SV Werder Bremen as its official digital transformation partner to help the latter advance fan experience and data intelligence.

To execute the project, HPE will be deploying and managing an edge-to-cloud infrastructure as well as the analytics and data lakehouse platform HPE Ezmeral.

According to HPE, the initiative will serve as the foundation for rolling out a variety of digital services in the coming months and years. Some of the services include the new official Werder app and data analytics for supporting the decision-making of the soccer club.

Werder Bremen management board chairman Klaus Filbry said: “Digitisation offers enormous potential in all areas of our company.

“We are therefore very pleased that we will be able to utilise the opportunities of digital transformation even better in the future together with such an internationally renowned company as HPE. This long-term partnership is an important component of our strategy.”

In its role as an official digital transformation partner, HPE will help the soccer club accomplish its goals by taking a comprehensive transformation approach across architecture, analytics platform, infrastructure, and digital services. This includes implementing and managing an edge-to-cloud infrastructure, ranging from networks and sensors in Werder Bremen’ stadium “wohninvest WESERSTADION” as well as the club’s data centre to the public cloud.

HPE said that the cloud-native HPE Ezmeral platform will be the base for the continuous analysis of data from different sources inside and outside the club’s stadium. The platform is said to give unified access to distributed data, data-operations processes, and analytics tools.

HPE Germany managing director and Germany, Austria and Switzerland senior vice president Johannes Koch said: “Werder Bremen is one of the most tradition-rich and respected soccer brands in Germany, and we are pleased to help the club take a decisive step in its digital transformation.

“Data and data analytics are increasingly at the core of any sports business. This transformation project will help Werder Bremen effectively use this resource to provide superior value to fans, partners, athletes and club decision makers.”
